English Translation
It was narrated to us by Abdullah ibn Muhammad - and I also heard it from Abdullah ibn Abi Shaybah - who said: It was narrated to us by Abu Usamah, from al-Walid ibn Jumay', who said: It was narrated to us by Abu al-Tufayl, who said: It was narrated to us by Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, who said: "Nothing prevented me from witnessing Badr except that I went out, myself and my father Husayl, and the disbelievers of Quraysh seized us. They said: 'You surely intend [to join] Muhammad.' We said: 'We intend nothing but Medina.' So they took from us Allah's covenant and pledge that we would return to Medina and not fight alongside him. So we came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and told him the news. He said: 'Go back, both of you; we will fulfill their pledge and seek Allah's help against them.'"
