حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ قُلْنَا لِحُذَيْفَةَ أَخْبِرْنَا بِرَجُلٍ قَرِيبِ السَّمْتِ وَالْهَدْيِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى نَأْخُذَ عَنْهُ قَالَ مَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَقْرَبَ سَمْتًا وَهَدْيًا وَدَلًّا بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى يُوَارِيَهُ جِدَارُ بَيْتِهِ مِنْ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ وَلَمْ نَسْمَعْ هَذَا مِنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ الْمَحْفُوظُونَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ ابْنَ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ مِنْ أَقْرَبِهِمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَسِيلَةً حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ وَلِيدِ بْنِ الْعَيْزَارِ عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بِهَذَا كُلِّهِ.
English Translation
It was narrated to us by Affan, who said: It was narrated to us by Shu'bah, who said: Abu Ishaq narrated to me, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid, who said: We said to Hudhayfah: "Tell us of a man closest in manner and conduct to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so that we may learn from him." He said: "I do not know anyone closer in manner, conduct, and demeanor to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, up to when the wall of his house conceals him, than Ibn Umm Abd." And we did not hear this from Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid: "The well-remembering ones among the companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, have known that Ibn Umm Abd is among the closest of them to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in standing." It was narrated to us by Affan, who said: It was narrated to us by Shu'bah, from al-Walid ibn al-Ayzar, from Abu Amr al-Shaybani, from Hudhayfah, with all of this.
