حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَزِينٌ الْجُهَنِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الرُّقَادِ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ مَوْلَايَ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ فَدُفِعْتُ إِلَى حُذَيْفَةَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ إِنْ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ لَيَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيَصِيرُ مُنَافِقًا وَإِنِّي لَأَسْمَعُهَا مِنْ أَحَدِكُمْ فِي الْمَقْعَدِ الْوَاحِدِ أَرْبَعَ مَرَّاتٍ لَتَأْمُرُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَلَتَنْهَوُنَّ عَنْ الْمُنْكَرِ وَلَتَحَاضُّنَّ عَلَى الْخَيْرِ أَوْ لَيُسْحِتَنَّكُمْ اللَّهُ جَمِيعًا بِعَذَابٍ أَوْ لَيُؤَمِّرَنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ شِرَارَكُمْ ثُمَّ يَدْعُو خِيَارُكُمْ فَلَا يُسْتَجَابُ لَكُمْ.
English Translation
'Abdullah b. Numayr told us, Razin al-Juhani told us, Abu al-Ruqad told me, he said: I went out with my master while I was a young boy, and I was brought before Hudhayfah, and he was saying: "A man might speak a word in the time of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) and become a hypocrite, and I hear it from one of you in a single sitting four times: you shall enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and urge one another to good, or God will indeed destroy you all together with a punishment, or He will set the worst of you in authority over you, then your best will call upon Him but you will not be answered."
