English Translation
I found in my father's book, in his own handwriting: Hafs ibn Ghiyath told us, Dawud ibn Abi Hind told us, from al-Sha'bi, from Abu Jabirah ibn al-Dahhak al-Ansari, from some of his paternal uncles: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived, and there was none of us but had a nickname or two. He said: so when he called a man by his nickname, we would say, "O Messenger of Allah, this one dislikes this." He said: so it was revealed: "And do not call each other by offensive nicknames."
