English Translation
Zayd ibn al-Hubab told us: Husayn ibn Waqid told me: Abdullah ibn Buraydah informed me, who said: I heard my father Buraydah say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arose one morning and called for Bilal and said: O Bilal, with what have you preceded me into Paradise? I never entered Paradise without hearing your footsteps ahead of me. Last night I entered Paradise and heard your footsteps, and I came upon a lofty, magnificent palace of gold, and I asked: Whose palace is this? They said: A man of the Arabs. I said: I am an Arab - whose palace is this? They said: A man of the Muslims, of the nation of Muhammad. I said: Then I am Muhammad - whose palace is this? They said: Umar ibn al-Khattab's. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Were it not for your jealousy, O Umar, I would have entered the palace. Umar said: O Messenger of Allah, would I ever be jealous of you? He said: And he said to Bilal: With what have you preceded me into Paradise? He said: I have done nothing except that whenever I fall into a state requiring ablution, I perform ablution and pray two rak'ahs. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It is by this.
