قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عُوَيْمِرًا الْعَجْلَانِيَّ جَاءَ إِلَى عَاصِمِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ فَقَالَ يَا عَاصِمُ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلًا وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ أَمْ كَيْفَ يَفْعَلُ سَلْ لِي عَنْ ذَلِكَ يَا عَاصِمُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَ عَاصِمٌ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَكَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسَائِلَ وَعَابَهَا حَتَّى كَبُرَ عَلَى عَاصِمٍ مِمَّا يَسْمَعُ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ مَا سَمِعَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ عَاصِمٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ جَاءَهُ عُوَيْمِرٌ فَقَالَ يَا عَاصِمُ مَاذَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ عَاصِمٌ لِعُوَيْمِرٍ لَمْ تَأْتِنِي بِخَيْرٍ فَكَرِهَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَسْأَلَةَ الَّتِي سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ عُوَيْمِرٌ وَاللَّهِ لَا أَنْتَهِي حَتَّى أَسْأَلَهُ عَنْهَا فَأَقْبَلَ عُوَيْمِرٌ حَتَّى أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسْطَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَأَيْتَ رَجُلًا وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ أَمْ كَيْفَ يَفْعَلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ وَفِي صَاحِبَتِكَ فَاذْهَبْ فَأْتِ بِهَا قَالَ سَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ فَتَلَاعَنَا وَأَنَا مَعَ النَّاسِ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَا قَالَ عُوَيْمِرٌ كَذَبْتُ عَلَيْهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنْ أَمْسَكْتُهَا فَطَلَّقَهَا ثَلَاثًا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَأْمُرَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَهَبَ إِلَى بَنِي عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفٍ لِيُصْلِحَ بَيْنَهُمْ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قَالَ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ امْكُثْ مَكَانَكَ فَرَفَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَدَيْهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ عَلَى مَا أَمَرَهُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ اسْتَأْخَرَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَتَّى اسْتَوَى فِي الصَّفِّ وَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّى فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَ مَعْنَى حَدِيثِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ.
English Translation
It was read to Abd al-Rahman, from Malik, from Ibn Shihab — and Ishaq ibn Isa narrated to us: Malik informed me, from Ibn Shihab, that Sahl ibn Sa'd informed him that Uwaymir al-Ajlani came to Asim ibn Adi al-Ansari and said: "O Asim, what do you think of a man who finds another man with his wife — should he kill him, and would you then kill him in retaliation, or how should he act? Ask the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about this for me, O Asim." So Asim asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about that, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, disliked such questions and found fault with them, until it became a serious matter to Asim because of what he heard — Ishaq said: what he heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When Asim returned to his family, Uwaymir came to him and said: "O Asim, what did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say?" Asim said to Uwaymir: "You have not brought me any good; the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, disliked the question I asked him about." Uwaymir said: "By Allah, I will not stop until I ask him about it myself." So Uwaymir came forward until he reached the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the midst of the people, and said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "What do you think of a man who finds another man with his wife — should he kill him, and would you then kill him, or how should he act?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Allah has already revealed a ruling concerning you and your wife; go and bring her." Sahl ibn Sa'd said: So they underwent the mutual imprecation, while I was among the people with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When they had finished, Uwaymir said: "I would be lying against her, O Messenger of Allah, if I kept her," so he divorced her three times before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had commanded him to do so. It was also read to Abd al-Rahman: Malik, from Abu Hazim ibn Dinar, from Sahl ibn Sa'd, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went to Banu Amr ibn Awf to reconcile them, and he mentioned the hadith, saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gestured to him to remain in his place. So Abu Bakr raised his hands to the sky and praised Allah for what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had commanded him to do, then Abu Bakr withdrew until he was level in the row, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came forward and led the prayer; and he mentioned the like of the meaning of the hadith of Hammad ibn Salamah.
