English Translation

Sufyan told us: Abu Hazim told us: I heard Sahl ibn Sa'd say: I was among the people when a woman entered and said: O Messenger of God, she has given herself to you, so decide as you see fit regarding her. A man said: Marry her to me. He did not answer him until she had stood up a third time. Then he said to the man: Do you have anything? He said: No. He said: Go and look. He said: I found nothing. He said: Go and look, even if it is only an iron ring. He said: I found no iron ring. He said: Do you have any of the Qur'an with you? He said: Yes, such-and-such surah and such-and-such surah. He said: I have married her to you for what you have of the Qur'an.
