English Translation
Surayj ibn al-Nu'man narrated to us, Hushaym narrated to us, Ibn al-Husayn ibn 'Abd al-Rahman informed us, 'Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah al-Ansari narrated to us, from his father Abu Qatadah, who said: We traveled with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) one night on a journey. We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, if only you would halt with us for a rest.' He said: 'I fear that you will sleep through the prayer. Who will wake us for the prayer?' Bilal said: 'I will, O Messenger of Allah.' He halted with the people, and we lay down. Bilal leaned against his mount and his eyes overcame him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up when the edge of the sun had risen and said: 'O Bilal, what about what you told us?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, never has such a sleep been cast upon me.' He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, took your souls when He willed and returned them to you when He willed.' Then he commanded them to disperse for their needs, perform ablution, and when the sun had risen, he led them in the Fajr prayer.
