حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا فِي مَسِيرٍ لَهُمْ فَرَأَيْتُ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ فَرَكِبْتُ فَرَسًا وَأَخَذْتُ الرُّمْحَ فَقَتَلْتُهُ قَالَ وَفِينَا الْمُحْرِمُ قَالَ فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهُ قَالَ فَأَشْفَقُوا قَالَ فَسَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ قَالَ فَسُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَشَرْتُمْ أَوْ أَعَنْتُمْ أَوْ أَصِدْتُمْ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ لَا أَدْرِي قَالَ أَعَنْتُمْ أَوْ أَصِدْتُمْ ثُمَّ قَالُوا لَا فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِأَكْلِهِ.
English Translation
Yahya narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, were you not to commit sins, Allah would take you away and bring a people who commit sins and then seek forgiveness from Allah, and He would forgive them."
