حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ أَبِيهِ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا دُعِيَ لِجِنَازَةٍ سَأَلَ عَنْهَا فَإِنْ أُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا خَيْرٌ قَامَ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا وَإِنْ أُثْنِيَ عَلَيْهَا غَيْرُ ذَلِكَ قَالَ لِأَهْلِهَا شَأْنُكُمْ بِهَا وَلَمْ يُصَلِّ عَلَيْهَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ.
English Translation
Yahya narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Anas, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "Be moderate and steady, and know that none of you will be saved by his deeds alone." They said: 'Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: "Not even I, unless Allah envelops me with His mercy and grace."
