English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from Abu 'Ubaydah, from 'Abdullah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "Indeed, the most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, and the most trustworthy handhold is the word of taqwa, and the best of religions is the religion of Ibrahim, and the best of practices is the practice of Muhammad, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The most evil of matters are newly invented ones, and every innovation is misguidance. The best of that which is cast into the heart is certainty of faith. The best of men are those who can see what they say. The most virtuous death is the martyrdom of a killed person. The most painful regret is the regret on the Day of Resurrection. The most beautiful beauty is beauty of character. The best of what the people bring into their hearts is faith and certainty. The worst of blindness is the blindness of the heart, and the worst of the worst is what the innovators invent. The bad deed that is regretted is better than the good deed that makes one boastful. The worst of earnings is the earning of usury. The worst of consumption is the consumption of the orphan's wealth. The fortunate one is he who learns from others. The wretched one is he who was wretched in his mother's womb. Each of you will end up in a space of four cubits. The affair is decided by its conclusion. The worst of narrations are lies. What is coming is near. Insulting a believer is wickedness, fighting him is disbelief, and backbiting him is disobedience to Allah. The sanctity of his wealth is like the sanctity of his blood. Whoever pardons will be pardoned by Allah. Whoever forgives will be forgiven by Allah. Whoever swallows his anger, Allah will reward him. Whoever endures a calamity, Allah will compensate him. Whoever seeks fame will be exposed by Allah. Whoever is patient will be given more patience by Allah. And no one is given a gift better and broader than patience."
