حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ غَلَابٍ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَعْرَجِ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي بَيْتِ السِّقَايَةِ وَهُوَ مُتَوَسِّدٌ بُرْدًا لَهُ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ عَاشُورَاءَ قَالَ عَنْ أَيِّ بَالِهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ عَنْ صِيَامِهِ قَالَ إِذَا أَنْتَ أَهْلَلْتَ الْمُحَرَّمَ فَاعْدُدْ تِسْعًا ثُمَّ أَصْبِحْ يَوْمَ التَّاسِعِ صَائِمًا قُلْتُ كَذَا كَانَ يَصُومُهُ مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ نَعَمْ.
English Translation
I was with Ibn Abbas at the house of the Water Station (Siqayah), and he was reclining on a cloak. I said: 'O Abu Abbas, tell me about Ashura.' He said: 'What do you want to know about it?' I said: 'About its fasting.' He said: 'When you see the crescent of Muharram, count nine days, and fast on that day.' I said: 'Is this how Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to fast it?' He said: 'Yes.'
