حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَغَيْرُهُ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ حَسَّانَ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْحَيَاءُ وَالْعِيُّ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنْ الْإِيمَانِ وَالْبَذَاءُ وَالْبَيَانُ شُعْبَتَانِ مِنْ النِّفَاقِ.
English Translation
Husayn ibn Muhammad and others narrated to us, and said: Muhammad ibn Mutarrif narrated to us, from Hassan ibn Atiyya, from Abu Umama al-Bahili, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: "Modesty and reticence are two branches of faith, and obscenity and (showy) eloquence are two branches of hypocrisy."
