English Translation
Yazid told us, Faraj ibn Fadalah al-Himsi informed us, from Ali ibn Yazid, from al-Qasim, from Abu Umamah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent me as a mercy and a guidance to the worlds, and commanded me to obliterate the flutes and the lutes -- meaning the stringed instruments -- and the tambourines and the idols that used to be worshiped in the Age of Ignorance. And my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, swore by His might: no servant of My servants drinks a swallow of wine but I will give him to drink in its place from the boiling water of Hell, whether punished or forgiven; and none gives it to drink to a small child but I will give him to drink in its place from the boiling water of Hell, whether punished or forgiven; and no servant of My servants forsakes it out of fear of Me but I will give him to drink instead from the Enclosure of Holiness; and it is not lawful to sell them, nor to buy them, nor to teach them, nor to trade in them, and their earnings are forbidden -- for the singing-girls." Yazid said: al-Kabarat are the stringed instruments.
