English Translation
Abu Sa'id told us: Abdullah ibn Bahir told us: Sayyar told us, saying: Some severed heads were brought from the direction of Iraq and were set up by the door of the mosque. Abu Umamah came and entered the mosque, prayed two rak'ahs, then went out to them and looked at them, then he raised his head and said: The worst of those slain under the shade of the sky, three times; and the best of those slain under the shade of the sky are those whom they killed. And he said: The dogs of the Fire, three times. Then he wept and turned away from them. A man said to him: O Abu Umamah, tell me about this saying of yours when you said 'the dogs of the Fire' — is it something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, or something you say from your own opinion? He said: Glory be to Allah! I would indeed be bold. Had I heard it from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, only once or twice — until he mentioned seven times — I would not have thought to relate it. The man said: For what reason did you weep? He said: Out of mercy for them, or out of pity for them.
