English Translation
Abdullah told us, my father told me, who said: I read to Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi, Malik told us, from Abu al-Zubayr al-Makki, from Abu al-Tufayl Amir ibn Wathilah, that Mu'adh informed him that they went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the year of Tabuk, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to combine the noon and afternoon prayers, and the sunset and night prayers. He said: he delayed the prayer, then went out and prayed the noon and afternoon together, then went in, then went out and prayed the sunset and night together. Then he said, "You will come tomorrow, if Allah wills, to the spring of Tabuk, and you will not reach it until the day grows hot; whoever comes to it should not touch any of its water until I come." So we came, and two men had already reached it, and the spring was like a shoelace, oozing a little water. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, asked them, "Did you touch any of its water?" They said, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, rebuked them and said to them what Allah willed him to say. Then they scooped up with their hands from the spring little by little until it gathered into something, then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, washed his face and hands in it, then put them back into it, and the spring flowed with abundant water, and the people drew water from it. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "It is likely, O Mu'adh, if your life is long, that you will see water here that has filled gardens." Abdullah told us, my father told me, Rawh told us, Malik ibn Anas told us, from Abu al-Zubayr, that Abu al-Tufayl informed him that Mu'adh ibn Jabal informed him, and he mentioned its like, and said, "oozing a little water."
