English Translation
'Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar told us, from al-Zuhri, from Ibn al-Musayyab, who said: Hassan b. Thabit recited poetry while he was in the mosque, and 'Umar passed by him and glanced at him. Hassan said: "By Allah, I have recited in it [poetry] when there was one in it who is better than you" — fearing that he would accuse him of [disrespecting] the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. So he passed on and left him.
