English Translation
Ziyad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Tufayl al-Bakka'i told us, Mansur told us, from Shaqiq, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, who said: Whoever swears a false oath, deliberately, to gain thereby property, while he is a wrongdoer in it, will meet Allah while He is angry with him. And confirmation of this is indeed in the Qur'an: Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their own oaths for a small price... to the end of the verse. He said: Al-Ash'ath came out reciting it and said: This verse was revealed about me. A man claimed a well of mine, so we brought our dispute to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: Your two witnesses, or his oath. I said: If he swears, he will swear falsely. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever swears a false oath deliberately to gain thereby property will meet Allah while He is angry with him.
