حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ أَنَّ مَوْلَى قُدَامَةَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ مَوْلًى لِأُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ أُسَامَةَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ كَانَ يَخْرُجُ إِلَى مَالِهِ بِوَادِي الْقُرَى فَيَصُومُ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ لِمَ تَصُومُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَقَدْ كَبِرْتَ وَرَقَقْتَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَصُومُ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ تَصُومُ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْأَعْمَالَ تُعْرَضُ يَوْمَ الِاثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسِ.
English Translation
Isma'il told us, Hisham al-Dastuwa'i told us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir told us, from Umar ibn al-Hakam ibn Thawban, that the freedman of Qudamah told him, that a freedman of Usamah told him, that Usamah ibn Zayd used to go out to his property in Wadi al-Qura and fast Monday and Thursday. I said to him: Why do you fast while traveling, when you have grown old and frail? He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to fast Monday and Thursday. I said: O Messenger of Allah, you fast Monday and Thursday - so he said: Deeds are presented on Monday and Thursday.
