English Translation
'Arim and Affan told us, they said: Mahdi ibn Maymun told us, Wasil the freedman of Abu 'Uyaynah told us, from Yahya ibn 'Uqayl, from Yahya ibn Ya'mar, from Abu al-Aswad al-Dili, from Abu Dharr, who said: They said, "O Messenger of Allah, the people of wealth have taken away the rewards; they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give charity from the surplus of their wealth." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Has Allah not made for you things by which you can give charity? Indeed with every glorification there is charity, and with every praise there is charity, and in the intimacy of one of you with his spouse there is charity." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, does one of us fulfill his desire and have reward in it?" He said: "Do you see, if he had placed it in something unlawful, would there not be sin upon him for it? Likewise, if he places it in what is lawful, he will have reward for it." Affan said: "you give charity," and said: "and every declaration of Allah's oneness and every declaration of His greatness is charity, and enjoining good is charity, and forbidding evil is charity, and in intimacy—" Abu al-Nadr told us, Mahdi told us, and he did not mention Abu al-Aswad.
