English Translation

Sufyan narrated to us: Hisham ibn Urwah narrated to us, from his father, from Abu Muraawih, from Abu Dharr, who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, which deed is best?" He said: "Faith in Allah, Exalted is He, and striving in His way (jihad)." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, then which slave [to free] is best?" He said: "The most precious to its owner and the highest in price." I said: "What if I cannot find [the means]?" He said: "Then assist a craftsman, or make something for one who is unskilled." I said: "What if I am not able?" He said: "Then restrain your harm from people, for that is a charity you give on behalf of yourself."
