حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ حَدَّثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنِي بَحِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ مَعْدَانَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ أَخْلَصَ قَلْبَهُ لِلْإِيمَانِ وَجَعَلَ قَلْبَهُ سَلِيمًا وَلِسَانَهُ صَادِقًا وَنَفْسَهُ مُطْمَئِنَّةً وَخَلِيقَتَهُ مُسْتَقِيمَةً وَجَعَلَ أُذُنَهُ مُسْتَمِعَةً وَعَيْنَهُ نَاظِرَةً فَأَمَّا الْأُذُنُ فَقَمِعٌ وَالْعَيْنُ بِمُقِرَّةٍ لِمَا يُوعَى الْقَلْبُ وَقَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ جَعَلَ قَلْبَهُ وَاعِيًا.
English Translation
Ibrahim ibn Abi al-Abbas narrated to us: Baqiyyah narrated to us, who said: Bahir ibn Sa'd informed me, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, who said: Abu Dharr said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "He has indeed succeeded who has purified his heart for faith, made his heart sound, his tongue truthful, his soul tranquil, and his character upright; and who has made his ear a listener and his eye a watcher. For the ear is a funnel, and the eye is a keeper of what the heart retains. He has indeed succeeded who has made his heart retentive."
