حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ و حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ قَالَ و حَدَّثَنِي وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ الْوَاسِطِيُّ قَالَ الثَّقَفِيُّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ قَالَ وَهْبٌ أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ عَنْ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الصَّلَاةُ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ سُنَّةٌ كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا يُعَابُ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ إِنَّمَا كَانَ ذَاكَ إِذْ كَانَ فِي الثِّيَابِ قِلَّةٌ فَأَمَّا إِذْ وَسَّعَ اللَّهُ فَالصَّلَاةُ فِي الثَّوْبَيْنِ أَزْكَى.
English Translation
Abdullah narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami narrated to me: Abd al-Wahhab ath-Thaqafi narrated to us -- and Abdullah narrated to us, who said: Wahb ibn Baqiyyah narrated to me: Khalid al-Wasiti informed us -- ath-Thaqafi said in his hadith: Abu Mas'ud al-Jurayri narrated to us; Wahb said: Khalid informed us, from al-Jurayri, from Abu Nadrah, who said: Ubayy ibn Ka'b said: "Praying in a single garment is a sunnah; we used to do it with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and we were not blamed for it." Ibn Mas'ud said: "That was only when garments were scarce; but now that Allah has granted abundance, praying in two garments is more proper."
