حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُؤْمِنِ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ شَقِيقٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ أَنَّهُمْ جَمَعُوا الْقُرْآنَ فِي مَصَاحِفَ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَكَانَ رِجَالٌ يَكْتُبُونَ وَيُمْلِي عَلَيْهِمْ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ فَلَمَّا انْتَهَوْا إِلَى هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ مِنْ سُورَةِ بَرَاءَةٌ { ثُمَّ انْصَرَفُوا صَرَفَ اللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمْ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ } فَظَنُّوا أَنَّ هَذَا آخِرُ مَا أُنْزِلَ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْرَأَنِي بَعْدَهَا آيَتَيْنِ { لَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ إِلَى وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ } ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذَا آخِرُ مَا أُنْزِلَ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ فَخُتِمَ بِمَا فُتِحَ بِهِ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى { وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا يُوحَى إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدُونِ }.
English Translation
Abdullah told us, Rawh ibn Abdul-Mu'min told us, Umar ibn Shaqiq told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, al-Rabi' ibn Anas told us, from Abu al-Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, that they gathered the Qur'an into codices during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him. Men were writing while Ubayy ibn Ka'b dictated to them. When they reached this verse from Surat Bara'ah: "Then they turned away; Allah has turned their hearts away, because they are a people who do not understand," they thought this was the last thing revealed of the Qur'an. Ubayy ibn Ka'b said to them, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, made me recite two verses after it: 'There has certainly come to you a messenger from among yourselves; grievous to him is that which you suffer, concerned over you, and to the believers kind and merciful' up to 'and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.'" Then he said, "This is the last thing revealed of the Qur'an." He said: So it was sealed with what it was opened with, with "Allah, besides whom there is no god" — and that is the saying of Allah, blessed and exalted is He: "And We did not send before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that there is no deity except Me, so worship Me."
