English Translation
Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, from Humayd, from Anas, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: Nothing has troubled my heart since I embraced Islam except that I once recited a verse and another man recited it differently from my recitation. So we came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. I said: "Did you teach me such-and-such verse?" He said: "Yes." The other man then said: "Did you not teach me such-and-such verse?" He said: "Yes. Gabriel came to me on my right and Michael on my left. Gabriel said: 'Recite the Qur'an according to one mode.' Michael said: 'Ask him for more,' until it reached seven modes, each one sufficient and satisfying." Abdullah told us, Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami told us, Bishr ibn al-Mufaddal told us, Humayd told us, he said: Anas said: Ubayy said: "Nothing entered my heart since I embraced Islam" — and he mentioned the meaning of the hadith of Ubayy as narrated from Yahya ibn Sa'id. Abdullah told us, Suwayd ibn Sa'id told us, al-Mu'tamir told us, from Humayd, from Anas, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, who said: "Nothing has entered my heart since I embraced Islam" — and he mentioned its meaning.
