English Translation
Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, from Sufyan: Habib -- that is, Ibn Abi Thabit -- told me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said: 'Umar said: "'Ali is the most learned among us in judgment, and Ubayy is the best reciter among us, and we do leave some of what Ubayy says, while Ubayy says: 'I took it from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and I will not abandon it,' while Allah says: 'Whatever verse We abrogate or cause to be forgotten...'"
