حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَ مَعَ وَالِدِهِ بِالْحَرَّةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ إِنَّ نَاقَةً لِي ذَهَبَتْ فَإِنْ أَصَبْتَهَا فَأَمْسِكْهَا فَوَجَدَهَا الرَّجُلُ فَلَمْ يَجِئْ صَاحِبُهَا حَتَّى مَرِضَتْ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ انْحَرْهَا حَتَّى نَأْكُلَهَا فَلَمْ يَفْعَلْ حَتَّى نَفَقَتْ فَقَالَتْ امْرَأَتُهُ اسْلُخْهَا حَتَّى نُقَدِّدَ لَحْمَهَا وَشَحْمَهَا قَالَ حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ فَقَالَ هَلْ عِنْدَكَ شَيْءٌ يُغْنِيكَ عَنْهَا قَالَ لَا قَالَ كُلْهَا فَجَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُ هَلَّا نَحَرْتَهَا قَالَ اسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْكَ.
English Translation
Abdullah narrated to us: Al-Hasan ibn Yahya narrated to me: Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us: Simak narrated to us from Jabir ibn Samurah, that a man was with his father at al-Harrah, and a man said to him: "I have lost a she-camel of mine; if you find her, keep her." The man found her, but her owner did not come until she fell ill. His wife said to him: "Slaughter her so we may eat her," but he refused until she died. His wife then said: "Skin her so we may dry-cure her meat and fat." He said: "Not until I ask the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." So he asked him, and he said: "Do you have anything that would suffice you instead of her?" He said: "No." He said: "Eat her." Then her owner came afterward and said to him: "Why did you not slaughter her?" He said: "I was too shy before you."
