حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِجَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ أَكُنْتَ تُجَالِسُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الصَّمْتِ قَلِيلَ الضَّحِكِ وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَذْكُرُونَ عِنْدَهُ الشِّعْرَ وَأَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أُمُورِهِمْ فَيَضْحَكُونَ وَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ.
English Translation
Simak said: I said to Jabir ibn Samurah: 'Did you used to sit with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?' He said: 'Yes. He was often silent and rarely laughed. His Companions would recite poetry and discuss their affairs in his presence, and they would laugh, and sometimes he would smile.'
