حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ هِلَالٍ قَالَ كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الطُّفَاوَةِ طَرِيقُهُ عَلَيْنَا فَأَتَى عَلَى الْحَيِّ فَحَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فِي عِيرٍ لَنَا فَبِعْنَا بِيَاعَتَنَا ثُمَّ قُلْتُ لَأَنْطَلِقَنَّ إِلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ فَلَآتِيَنَّ مَنْ بَعْدِي بِخَبَرِهِ قَالَ فَانْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِذَا هُوَ يُرِينِي بَيْتًا قَالَ إِنَّ امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ فِيهِ فَخَرَجَتْ فِي سَرِيَّةٍ مِنْ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَتَرَكَتْ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ عَنْزًا لَهَا وَصِيصِيَتَهَا كَانَتْ تَنْسِجُ بِهَا قَالَ فَفَقَدَتْ عَنْزًا مِنْ غَنَمِهَا وَصِيصِيَتَهَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَبِّ إِنَّكَ قَدْ ضَمِنْتَ لِمَنْ خَرَجَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ أَنْ تَحْفَظَ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنِّي قَدْ فَقَدْتُ عَنْزًا مِنْ غَنَمِي وَصِيصِيَتِي وَإِنِّي أَنْشُدُكَ عَنْزِي وَصِيصِيَتِي قَالَ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُ شِدَّةَ مُنَاشَدَتِهَا لِرَبِّهَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَصْبَحَتْ عَنْزُهَا وَمِثْلُهَا وَصِيصِيَتُهَا وَمِثْلُهَا وَهَاتِيكَ فَأْتِهَا فَاسْأَلْهَا إِنْ شِئْتَ قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلْ أُصَدِّقُكَ.
English Translation
'Abd al-Samad ibn 'Abd al-Warith told us, Sulayman -- meaning Ibn al-Mughira -- told us, from Humayd -- meaning Ibn Hilal -- who said: There was a man from al-Tufawa whose route passed by us, and he came to the tribe and narrated to them. He said: I came to Madina with a caravan of ours, and we sold our merchandise. Then I said, "I shall certainly go to this man, so that I may bring word of him to those after me." He said: So I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and there he was, showing me a house. He said: "There was a woman in it who went out with a raiding party of Muslims, leaving behind twelve goats of hers and her spindle-whorl with which she used to weave. She then found that a goat and her spindle-whorl from her flock were missing, and she said, 'O my Lord, You have guaranteed for whoever goes out in Your path that You will protect what is his, and I have lost a goat from my flock and my spindle-whorl, and I beseech You for my goat and my spindle-whorl.'" He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went on describing the intensity of her beseeching of her Lord, Blessed and Exalted. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "So her goat was restored to her, and another like it, and her spindle-whorl was restored to her, and another like it -- and there it is, so go to her and ask her if you wish." He said: I said, "Rather, I believe you."
