English Translation
Hushaym told us, Yunus ibn 'Ubayd told us, from 'Abd Rabbihi al-Hujaymi, from Jabir ibn Sulaym or Sulaym, who said: I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and there he was, sitting with his Companions. I said, "Which of you is the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him?" He said: Either he pointed to himself, or the people pointed to him. He said: There he was, reclining wrapped in a cloak, its fringe having fallen upon his feet. He said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am rough in some matters, so teach me." He said: "Fear Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and do not belittle any act of kindness, even if it is only pouring from your bucket into the vessel of one seeking water. And beware of vanity, for Allah, Blessed and Exalted, does not love vanity. And if a man reviles you and taunts you with something he knows about you, do not taunt him with something you know about him, so that its reward will be yours and its sin will be his. And do not revile anyone."
