English Translation
Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Uyaynah informed us, from his father, from Abu Barzah al-Aslami, who said: I went out walking one day and there was the Prophet (peace be upon him) heading somewhere. I thought he had a need, so I kept holding back from him and going alongside him. He saw me and beckoned to me, so I came to him and he took my hand, and we walked together. Then we came upon a man praying, performing many bowings and prostrations. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Do you think he is showing off?' I said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He released my hand, then he pressed his palms together, raising them to the level of his shoulders and lowering them, saying: 'You must adopt a moderate course' — three times — 'for whoever tries to outdo the religion, it will overpower him.' Yazid said in Baghdad: 'Buraydah al-Aslami,' and he had previously said 'from Abu Barzah,' but then he reverted to Buraydah. Waki and Muhammad ibn Bakr both said: 'Buraydah al-Aslami.'
