حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ حَدَّثَنَا قَسَامَةُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَبِي و حَدَّثَنَاه هَوْذَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ عَن قَسَامَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْأَشْعَرِيَّ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ خَلَقَ آدَمَ مِنْ قَبْضَةٍ قَبَضَهَا مِنْ جَمِيعِ الْأَرْضِ فَجَاءَ بَنُو آدَمَ عَلَى قَدْرِ الْأَرْضِ جَعَلَ مِنْهُمْ الْأَحْمَرَ وَالْأَبْيَضَ وَالْأَسْوَدَ وَبَيْنَ ذَلِكَ وَالسَّهْلَ وَالْحَزْنَ وَبَيْنَ ذَلِكَ وَالْخَبِيثَ وَالطَّيِّبَ وَبَيْنَ ذَلِكَ.
English Translation
Yahya b. Sa'id told us: Awf told us: Qasama b. Zuhayr told us, from Abu Musa, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him - my father said, and Hawdha also told us: Awf told us, from Qasama, who said: I heard al-Ash'ari say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, created Adam from a handful He took from the whole earth. So the children of Adam came forth according to the makeup of the earth: He made among them the red, the white, and the black, and in between; and the easy-natured and the harsh, and in between; and the corrupt and the good, and in between."
