English Translation
Ishaq ibn Yusuf told us: Abu Janab told us, from Zadhan, from Jarir ibn Abdullah, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and when we emerged from Medina, a rider suddenly appeared hastening toward us. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "It is as if this rider wants you." The man reached us and greeted us with salaam, and we returned his greeting. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him, "Where have you come from?" He said, "From my family, my children, and my clan." He said, "Where are you headed?" He said, "I am seeking the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said, "You have found him." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, teach me what faith is." He said, "You testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, you establish the prayer, you give the zakat, you fast Ramadan, and you perform pilgrimage to the House." He said, "I have accepted it." Then his camel's leg went into a burrow full of rats, and his camel fell, and the man fell, landing on the crown of his head, and died. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Bring the man to me." Ammar ibn Yasir and Hudhayfa jumped to him and sat him up, then said, "O Messenger of Allah, the man has died." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, turned away from them, then said to them, "Did you not see me turning away from the two of you? I saw two angels feeding him from the fruits of Paradise, and I knew that he died hungry." Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "This one, by Allah, is among those about whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: 'Those who believed and did not mix their faith with wrongdoing - those will have security, and they are [rightly] guided.'" Then he said, "Take charge of your brother." So we carried him to the water, washed him, embalmed him, shrouded him, and carried him to the grave. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came and sat at the edge of the grave and said, "Dig a niche grave and do not make a trench grave, for the niche grave is for us and the trench grave is for others besides us." Aswad ibn Amir told us: Abd al-Hamid ibn Abi Ja'far al-Farra' told us, from Thabit, from Zadhan, from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, from Medina, and while we were traveling, a figure appeared to us - and he mentioned it similarly - except that he said, "the leg of his young camel fell into one of those holes that rats dig," and he said in it, "This is one of those who did little but were rewarded much."
