English Translation
Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri told us, Kathir ibn Zayd told us, from al-Muttalib ibn Abdullah, from Itban, or Ibn Utban, al-Ansari, who said: I said, "O Prophet of Allah, I was with my wife, and when I heard your voice I withdrew and performed a full ritual bath." So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Water is (required) only on account of water (i.e., the ritual bath is only obligatory upon the emission of semen)."
