English Translation
Isma'il—that is, Ibn Ulayyah—told us: Shu'bah informed us, from al-Hakam ibn Utaybah: Abu Ubaydah ibn Abd Allah was appointed over the prayer in the days of Ibn al-Ash'ath, and when he raised his head from bowing, he would stand for the time it takes to say—or he indeed said the words—"O Allah, our Lord, to You is praise, filling the heavens and filling the earth, and filling whatever else You will besides, worthy of praise and glory; none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and the might of the mighty person does not avail him against You." Al-Hakam said: I narrated that to Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, and he said, "Al-Bara' ibn Azib told me, saying: The bowing of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and when he raised his head from bowing, and his prostration, and what was between the two prostrations, were nearly equal [in length]."
