English Translation
Abdur-Razzaq narrated to us: Sufyan informed us, from Jabir, from al-Sha'bi, from Abdullah ibn Thabit, who said: Umar ibn al-Khattab came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah, I passed by a brother of mine from Banu Qurayzah, and he wrote for me some comprehensive extracts from the Torah - shall I present them to you? The face of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, changed. Abdullah, that is Ibn Thabit, said: I said to him (Umar): Do you not see what is on the face of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him? So Umar said: We are content with Allah, Exalted, as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, as Messenger. Then the anger was relieved from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, were Moses to appear among you and you were to follow him and abandon me, you would have gone astray. You are indeed my portion among the nations, and I am your portion among the prophets.
