حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا بُكَيْرٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي نُعْمٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ أَنَّهُ سَافَرَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَادِيًا فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَأَتَاهُ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَخَلَعَ خُفَّيْهِ فَتَوَضَّأَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ وَجَدَ رِيحًا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَعَادَ فَخَرَجَ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ فَقُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ نَسِيتَ لَمْ تَخْلَعْ الْخُفَّيْنِ قَالَ كَلَّا بَلْ أَنْتَ نَسِيتَ بِهَذَا أَمَرَنِي رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ubayd told us, Bukayr told us from Abdul Rahman ibn Abi Nu'm, al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah told us, that he traveled with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, entered a valley and relieved himself, then came out, and he came to him and performed ablution, having taken off his socks, and performed the ablution. When he finished, he later noticed a smell, so he went back out and performed ablution and wiped over his socks. I said, "O Prophet of Allah, did you forget? You did not take off the socks." He said, "No, rather you forgot. My Lord, Mighty and Majestic, commanded me to do this."
