مَرَّتَيْنِ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ عَنْ عَدِيِّ ابْنِ عَمِيرَةَ الْكِنْدِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ عَمِلَ مِنْكُمْ لَنَا عَلَى عَمَلٍ فَكَتَمَنَا مِنْهُ مَخِيطًا فَمَا فَوْقَهُ فَهُوَ غُلٌّ يَأْتِي بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ أَسْوَدُ قَالَ مُجَالِدٌ هُوَ سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اقْبَلْ عَنِّي عَمَلَكَ فَقَالَ وَمَا ذَاكَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُكَ تَقُولُ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ وَأَنَا أَقُولُ ذَلِكَ الْآنَ مَنْ اسْتَعْمَلْنَاهُ عَلَى عَمَلٍ فَلْيَجِئْ بِقَلِيلِهِ وَكَثِيرِهِ فَمَا أُوتِيَ مِنْهُ أَخَذَهُ وَمَا نُهِيَ عَنْه انْتَهَى حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ عَنْ قَيْسٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَدِيُّ ابْنُ عَمِيرَةَ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ عَدِيِّ ابْنِ عَمِيرَةَ الْكِنْدِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ اسْتَعْمَلْنَاهُ عَلَى عَمَلٍ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
English Translation
[Narrated twice] Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, he said: Qays told me, from Adi ibn Amirah al-Kindi, he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O people, whoever among you is employed by us over some task and conceals from us [even] a needle or more, it is misappropriated goods which he will bring on the Day of Resurrection. He said: Then a black man from the Ansar stood up — Mujalid said: he was Sa'd ibn Ubadah, as if I am looking at him now — and said: O Messenger of Allah, take back from me your assignment. He said: What is that? He said: I heard you say such-and-such. He said: And I say that now: whoever we employ over a task, let him bring [all of] it, its little and its much; whatever he is given of it, let him take it, and whatever he is forbidden, let him refrain from. [Narration] ended. Yazid ibn Haroun told us, he said: Isma'il informed us, from Qays, he said: Adi ibn Amirah told me, and he related the hadith. Waki' told us, Ibn Abi Khalid told us, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from Adi ibn Amirah al-Kindi, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever we employ over a task — and he related its meaning.
