حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ حَدَّثَنِي بُرَيْدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَوْرَاءِ السَّعْدِيِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِلْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ مَا تَذْكُرُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَذْكُرُ أَنِّي أَخَذْتُ تَمْرَةً مِنْ تَمْرِ الصَّدَقَةِ فَأَلْقَيْتُهَا فِي فِيَّ فَانْتَزَعَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِلُعَابِهَا فَأَلْقَاهَا فِي التَّمْرِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مَا عَلَيْكَ لَوْ أَكَلَ هَذِهِ التَّمْرَةَ قَالَ إِنَّا لَا نَأْكُلُ الصَّدَقَةَ.
English Translation
Al-Hasan ibn Ali was asked: 'What do you remember from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)?' He said: 'I remember taking a date from the charity dates and putting it in my mouth. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took it out with its saliva and placed it back among the dates.' A man said to him: 'What would it matter if he ate this date?' He said: 'We (the family of the Prophet) do not eat charity.'
