حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ و حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ مَخْلَدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ مَرْثَدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْيَزَنِيِّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ أُهْدِيَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرُّوجُ حَرِيرٍ فَلَبِسَهُ فَصَلَّى فِيهِ بِالنَّاسِ الْمَغْرِبَ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ نَزَعَهُ نَزْعًا عَنِيفًا ثُمَّ أَلْقَاهُ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ لَبِسْتَهُ وَصَلَّيْتَ فِيهِ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْمُتَّقِينَ.
English Translation
Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib - and my father narrated to us from al-Dahhak ibn Makhlad, from 'Abd al-Hamid ibn Ja'far - Yazid ibn Abi Habib narrated to us, from Marthad ibn 'Abdullah al-Yazani, from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir al-Juhani, who said: A silk farruj was presented as a gift to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He wore it and led the people in the Maghrib prayer wearing it. When he gave the salaam ending his prayer, he tore it off violently, then threw it down. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, you wore it and prayed in it!" He said, "This is not fitting for the God-fearing."
