English Translation
Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith told us, he said: Malik ibn Mighwal told us: Ali ibn Mudrik told us, from Abu Amir al-Ash'ari, who said: A man of theirs was killed at Awtas, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: O Abu Amir, would that you had changed it? Then he recited this verse: {O you who believe, upon you is responsibility for yourselves; those who have gone astray cannot harm you when you have been guided}. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, became angry and said: Where have you gone with this? It only means: O you who believe, those of the disbelievers who go astray cannot harm you when you have been guided.
