حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي خُصَيْفٌ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ وَعَطَاءٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ أخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَصَّرَ مِنْ شَعَرِهِ بِمِشْقَصٍ فَقُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مَا بَلَغَنَا هَذَا الْأَمْرُ إِلَّا عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ مَا كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُتَّهَمًا.
English Translation
Marwan ibn Shuja' said: Khusayf narrated to me from Mujahid and 'Ata' from Ibn 'Abbas: that Mu'awiya informed him that he saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, shorten his hair with an arrowhead. I said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'This matter has not reached us except from Mu'awiya.' He said: 'Mu'awiya was never suspected regarding the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.'
