English Translation
Attab told us: Abdullah - meaning Ibn al-Mubarak - told us: Yunus told us, from al-Zuhri: Abu Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf al-Ansari informed me that Ibn Abbas informed him that Khalid ibn al-Walid, who is called the Sword of Allah, informed him that he entered with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, upon Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who was his maternal aunt and the maternal aunt of Ibn Abbas, and he found with her a roasted lizard which her sister Hufaydah bint al-Harith had brought from Najd. She presented the lizard to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he rarely reached his hand toward food until he was told about it and it was named for him. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, reached his hand toward the lizard, and a woman among the women present said: Tell the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, what you have presented to him. They said: It is lizard, O Messenger of Allah. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, withdrew his hand from the lizard. Khalid ibn al-Walid said: Is lizard forbidden, O Messenger of Allah? He said: No, but it is not found in the land of my people, so I find myself averse to it. Khalid said: So I drew it toward myself and ate it, while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was looking at me, and he did not forbid me.
