English Translation
He said: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim told us, he said: My father informed us, from Salih ibn Kaysan, and Ibn Shihab narrated, from Abu Umamah ibn Sahl, from Ibn Abbas, that he informed him that Khalid ibn al-Walid informed him that he entered with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, upon Maymunah bint al-Harith, who was his maternal aunt, and she presented to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the meat of a lizard which Umm Hufayd bint al-Harith had brought from Najd - and she was married to a man of the Banu Ja'far. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, never ate anything until he knew what it was, so some of the women said: Will you not tell the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, what it is that he is eating? So they told him it was lizard meat, and he left it alone. Khalid said: I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: Is it forbidden? He said: No, but it is a food not found among my people, so I find myself averse to it. Khalid said: So I drew it toward myself and ate it, while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, watched. Ibn Shihab said: And al-Asamm - meaning Yazid ibn al-Asamm - narrated it to him, from Maymunah, in whose care he was raised.
