English Translation
'Abdullah narrated to us: Mus'ab ibn 'Abdullah -- that is, al-Zubayri -- narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to me, from Fa'id, client of 'Abadil, who said: I went out with Ibrahim ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abdullah ibn Abi Rabi'ah. Ibrahim ibn 'Abd al-Rahman sent for Ibn Sa'd, and when we were at al-'Arj, Ibn Sa'd came -- and Sa'd was the one who had guided the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, on the road of his journey. Ibrahim said: "Tell me what your father narrated to you." Ibn Sa'd said: My father narrated to me that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, came to them, with Abu Bakr accompanying him. Abu Bakr had a daughter being nursed among us. The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, wanted to take a shortcut on the road to Medina, so Sa'd said to him: "This is the ravine of Rakubah, and in it are two thieves from Aslam called al-Muhanan (the humiliated ones); if you wish, we will take the way past them." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Take us past them." Sa'd said: So we set out until we came into view, and one of them was saying to his companion, "This is the Yemeni." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, called the two of them and presented Islam to them, and they accepted Islam. Then he asked them their names, and they said, "We are al-Muhanan (the humiliated ones)." He said: "Rather, you are al-Mukraman (the honored ones)." And he ordered them to come to him at Medina. So we went on until we came to the outskirts of Quba, and the Banu 'Amr ibn 'Awf met him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Where is Abu Umamah As'ad ibn Zurarah?" Sa'd ibn Khaythamah said: "He has preceded me to it, O Messenger of God; shall I not inform him for you?" Then he went on until he came in sight of the palm trees, and the watering troughs were full, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, turned to Abu Bakr, may God be pleased with him, and said: "O Abu Bakr, this is the dwelling place -- I saw myself in a dream alighting at troughs like the troughs of Banu Mudlij."
