English Translation
He said: Mu'awiyah ibn 'Amr narrated to us, he said: Za'idah narrated to us, he said: al-Rukayn ibn al-Rabi' ibn 'Umaylah narrated to us, from Abu 'Amr al-Shaybani, from a man of the Ansar, from the Prophet, who said: "Horses are of three kinds: a horse which a man ties up in the way of God, the Mighty and Majestic -- its price is a reward, its riding is a reward, its lending is a reward, and its fodder is a reward; a horse which a man keeps for gambling and wagering -- its price is a sin and its fodder is a sin; and a horse kept for filling the belly, which may well be a shield against poverty, if God the Exalted wills."
