قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ قَالَ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ عَدَلْتُ إِلَى ظِلِّ شَجَرَةٍ فَلَمَّا خَفَّ النَّاسُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَا ابْنَ الْأَكْوَعِ أَلَا تُبَايِعُ قُلْتُ قَدْ بَايَعْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ وَأَيْضًا قَالَ فَبَايَعْتُهُ الثَّانِيَةَ قَالَ يَزِيدُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ عَلَى أَيِّ شَيْءٍ تُبَايِعُونَ يَوْمَئِذٍ قَالَ عَلَى الْمَوْتِ.
English Translation
Makki ibn Ibrahim told us, he said: Yazid ibn Abi Ubayd told us, from Salamah ibn al-Akwa', who said: "I gave the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then I withdrew to the shade of a tree. When the people around the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had thinned out, he said: 'O Ibn al-Akwa', will you not give the pledge?' I said: 'I have already given the pledge, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Do it again.'" He said: "So I gave him the pledge a second time." Yazid said: "So I said: 'O Abu Muslim, what did you pledge allegiance upon that day?' He said: 'Upon death.'"
