حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي قَالَ أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ فَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا.
English Translation
Affan told us: Hammad ibn Salamah told us: Sa'id al-Jurayri informed us, from Abu al-'Ala', from Mutarrif, from 'Uthman ibn Abi al-'As, who said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, appoint me as the leader in prayer of my people. He said: You are their leader, so follow the pace of the weakest of them, and appoint a caller to prayer who does not take payment for his call.
