English Translation
Ya'qub b. Ibrahim narrated to us: My father narrated to us: Muhammad b. Ishaq narrated to us, from Aban b. Salih, from al-Fadl b. Abdullah b. Ma'qil b. Sinan, from Abdullah b. Niyar al-Aslami, from Amr b. Sha's al-Aslami — who was among the Companions of Hudaybiyyah — who said: I set out with Ali to Yemen, and he treated me harshly on that journey until I felt resentment toward him in my heart. When I arrived, I made my complaint against him known in the mosque, until it reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. I entered the mosque one morning, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was among a group of his Companions. When he saw me, he fixed his eyes on me — meaning he stared sharply at me — until, when I sat down, he said, "O Amr, by Allah, you have hurt me." I said, "I seek refuge in Allah from hurting you, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Indeed you have — whoever hurts Ali has hurt me."
