حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُصْعَبٍ حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ وَالْمُبَارَكُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِأَسِيرٍ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ وَلَا أَتُوبُ إِلَى مُحَمَّدٍ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَرَفَ الْحَقَّ لِأَهْلِهِ.
English Translation
Al-Aswad ibn Sari' narrated that a captive was brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'O Allah, I repent to You and not to Muhammad.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'He has recognized the right and attributed it to its people.'
